Is it easy to get around the diff island in fijiCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
Hi everyone, My partner and I are going to Fiji for 5 nights for our honeymoon in early Jan 2010. We have booked a room at the Hilton in Denaru island. I've been reading this forum and it seems that the beaches in Denaru island is not nice at all. I was just wondering how easy is it to have a day trip to the outter islands? And whether it is very costly? I would like to see the famous white sands and blue/green ocean, but I dont think i will be able to see it on Denaru island. Also would love to go snorkeling etc. Any recs. Also, is it hard to get transport from nadi airport to Denaru? I have not organised any transportation yet, was just going to fly into nadi and get a taxi there. Is this safe to do, or should i organise it before landing in Fiji? Many thanks for the help!! :)
If you're staying at the Hilton, don't worry about the cost of anything ... There is a daily Yasawa Flyer that runs up and down the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands. You could visit one of the closer islands as a day trip. But there are also, I believe, some excursion boat day trips as a possibility. For a day trip this might be a better option, since the whole day is dedicated to the excursion (lunch on board, etc). I'm sure details about such excursions can be obtained easily enough after you arrive. Or perhaps another poster has info about this. Personally, I'd expect a chain like the Hilton to have airport pickup service. If not, taxi is OK although I don't know the cost. Fiji is in general quite a safe place and you shouldn't worry about things like this. | 1
Hopefully it will be your one and only honeymoon, why not shout yourselves a helicopter flight over the Mamanuca islands. | 2
you are absolutely right about the beach quality at denarau! it is crap (just being honest here-regardless your staying there at hilton or sheraton or others). if you have the budget, you are better off staying at treasure, navini, castaway island resorts on mamanucas or turtle island further out on the yasawas. these islands are so close to each other so you might as well pick your island of choice nd budget and just go out on a tour everyday. | 3
5 days in Denaru is too long when much better polenisia is 20 mins onto an insland, maybe take a day tour boat to Beachcomber (Im going there again next week, and if you wanted tomaybe look at overnighting there in one of their quaint on beach chalets, the whole iland is 15 around. google it and see what you think, enjoy! | 4
3/ congratulations on a pointless and obnoxious post. The OP has already booked their honeymoon so advising them that the beach is crap and they should stay somewhere else is pretty unhelpful and, dare I say it, a little spiteful? OP - Denerau beach is fine for 4 / 5 days (I have just booked to go back to Fiji for 5 nights early september, also staying at the Hilton) but would definitely recommend the odd day trip to one of the islands for that picture perfect beach and snorkeling etc. As for Hotel transfer, just get the Hilton to organise it - that's what they're there for. I just returned from the Yasawas (7 nites) and Denerau (2 nites) - very different and both good fun Taxi Denerau-Hilton is about FJD$30 - less if you haggle. There are loads ofthem so no need to book, but for a honeymoon, having someone with a card saying "Mr and Mrs Killer" might be fun. No snorkelling at Denerau as the water is dark (black "sand") - this means that all the hotels - Hilton, Sofitel, Westin Sheraton etc have fabulous gardens and wonderful pools. The Radisson does a romantic dinner in a pool - "Lomani Wai" which is wonderfull for honeymooners. I went last week and the fellow on the next table proposed (she said "yes") | 6
Don't stress too much about what to do when you get to Fiji, the tour desk at the Hilton will have all the available day tour options to choose from you shouldn't need to book in advance - just gather the information when you get there so you can plan and book at the begining of your stay. The helicopter option is a great suggestion, one other I would like to offer is a day trip to Natadola Beach - it is the best beach (white sand/blue water lagoon) on Viti Levu and is only about an hour from Denarau - I would go so far as to suggest (as you will be on your honeymoon) getting a private vehicle or taxi and spending the day there with lunch at the new intercontinential hotel. Enjoy! | 7
