Kids in Cars?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had experience with taking young children (2 & 4) to fiji & specifically what they did about Car Seats & Safety - e.g did you take booster seats? We are not going to hire a car ourselves so what are the other options? Are there drivers with kid seats?

Thanks for any help!

You may get a response by posting your question on the Fiji board at www.tripadvisor.com - taiMarilyn might know but I don't think she checks in here every day.

The car rental companies have childrens car seats on offer but only if you hire a rental with them. If you are not going to hire a car, your other choice I imagine would be travelling by taxi. The taxis that you find at the hotels are almost always in vry good condition. Therefore if you take along your own kids seats you can use them. However, in Fiji the use of kids car seats/boosters & seatbelts for backseat passengers is still not compulsory. I have not come across drivers or taxi companies that carry kids seats. So if you are catching a cab from any other place besides a hotel or the airport you need to be choosy about the cab you choose. Check that the back seats have belts and that your boosters can be fitted. I would recommend that you use the kids seats in Fiji.....the local drivers are crazyyyy! Buses don't have seat belts at all.....it'll be a great experience...have fun!

Its a lot of hassle carrying car seats on planes and through airports etc

I would personally reconsider hiring a car for the day when needed with car seats,,, or traveling via bus's........ Drivers are mad and seat belts are never worn by locals but Taxi drivers will driver more carefully especially with kids in the car
