I've been reading a bit about Fiji, with the intent of not asking the same types of questions. Traveling to Fiji in about 1 week with my wife, 3yo daughter and parents. Flying into Nadi. Going ultimately to the Coral Coast (near) to help rebuild an elementary school library. Would like to go a few days to Blue Lagoon Resort. Obviously the Flyer is the way to go. Is there a more economical way other than a 7 day pass, since we may not do island hopping? How about kid-friendly options. I tried to check out the homestay recommendations---i.e. Danny's---put the posted link is not working. We plan to have anywhere from 7-10 days in Fiji (relatively short) and prefer to keep as economical as possible. Beachhouse looks like fun. We enjoy meeting locals. We'll try to check out Sigatoka Sand Dunes, markets, Pottery Village, Biausevu Waterfall, hot springs, Tavuni Hill Fort. Missing anything? Thanks as usual. Trying to use our remaining time to do a couple of islands in Micronesia too :) (rough life)
re Danny's on Coral Coast, Fiji try this link http://www.fijihomestays.com/index.htm or maybe this one http://www.fijihomestays.com/fiji_homestays_photos.htm hope they work | 1
It's not on their website but you can just book single trips on the Flyer. Use the email link to give them your dates. Last year it was FJ$140 (one way) for an adult. I'm not sure but under 3s may be free. They will ask for a CC number to hold the booking - make sure when you give that you tell them that you will pay on check-in - it usually works out cheaper. | 2
there are cheaper resorts up at the end of the Yellow Boat line other than Blue Lagoon, and all will run you over to the (it's not a stand out in the area but its name goes before it, thanks Brooke Shields) Lagoon. That end of the line is the Yasawa Group so look for somewhere along the boat line for cheaper than Bluw Lagoon resort if you want to save money. | 3
5 people going to Blue Lagoon (or anywhere in the islands) isn't very budget friendly, although it is an outstanding resort. Your kid should be free on the Flyer, but you could also check out Turtle Airways and see what they'd charge for your family. Direct transfers work out marginally cheaper than a Bula pass. I'd probably just buy the Bula pass and stay at Blue Lagoon & somewhere else (Octopus perhaps) to use up the 7 days. If you end up having 10 days total, then use up your remaining 3 days on the mainland. However, if keeping the budget down is the main consideration, then just don't go to the islands. | 4
I recently had a week at the beachhouse. It's ok, but not quite a family place. There is an ok pool, but you need to be aware that all coral coast beaches are difficult - only swimmable at highest tide, and then still lots of coral and rocks to dodge. | 5
