Leeches in Taveuni?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Have finished packing for 3 weeks in Fiji and Husband wonders should we pack our leech socks from Sabah for hiking in Taveuni and Qamea. Old LP guide from trip to Viti Levu and Octopus a while back doesn't mention leeches anywhere and there were none in the Colo-i-Suva Forest Park, tho' that is drier). I told him "no" but now I'm just checking.

Not sure about Fiji, but I've never met a leech in Solomon Islands, in 5 years of living there and 20 of visiting, and travelling to all sorts of areas of the country.
(And I have had plenty of close encounters with them in Australia).

I hiked quite a lot in Taveuni in the rainy seaon and don't remember leeches at all.
Certainly nothing like Sabah or even Thai or Indian jungles in the wet!

Thanks ---no leech socks then. Praying for no giant waves as well.
