Lomani Beach Resort: Loved It!

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

I just stayed at Lomani Beach Resort and absolutely loved it. The staff were so friendly (make sure you learn their names and they will remember yours). It took me about a day to get into the Fiji relaxation mode, but once I was there I was sold. We took canoes out to the sandbank that appeared at low tide for snorkeling and swimming and sunning. It was truly amazing. We took a bike ride up to the top of the hill and through the coconut tree groves, walked along the beach at sunset (fantastic pictures), took a snorkeling trip to the outer reef, and enjoyed lunch with cocktails by the beautiful swimming pool. We were invited to kava one night by the manager. It was a great cultural experience.

Food was good overall with the lobster thermidor and chili crab as two highlights(be sure to do the meal plan). Eggs to order breakfast with bacon was the best. The menu could be more varied from day to day, but you could go over to Plantation on the same meal plan.

If you want a beach during low tide, just walk five minutes down to Plantation (same owners). Take your mosquit0 repellent. While no one else was biten, I was feasted upon.

Lomani has no kids and only twelve rooms. We did the standard room and it was huge (big living room, bathroom, and separate bed room).

resort is located ... where?
Malolo Lailai Island in Mamanuca group?

never hurts to mention prices/costs. People's budgets do differ.

Lomani is in the Mamanuca group (Maolo Lailai Island). It is about a 45 minute boat ride from the main island. We booked as part of a package (2 people; 4 nights for $1500). This included all transferes, all meals (minus drinks). It's not cheap, but well worth it. Fiji seems to be pricey in general. For anyone looking for a cheaper option, I suggest looking at the backpacker places.

Do they have a website? How did you book? Thanks for the review!

I booked through a travel company called Undersea Expeditions (E-mail: greg@UnderseaX.com). The site for Lomani is www.lomaniisland.com. You might also try a company called Happy Vacation or Pacific Destinations (http://www.happy-vacations.com or http://www.pacific-destinations.com). I believe they are the same company. They handled everything while we were in Fiji and were always available to help even late Sunday night when my traveling companion decided to stay on for three more nights. I had to move on for work. Not fair!
