Long Beach Resort

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi,

I decided to take a leap of faith and book at a resort that I couldn’t really find any info about – Long Beach Resort. The deal was good and the pictures looked nice so now I’m wondering…has any one been there? What was it like?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, I was there last July and I just loved the place. It is so remote and the people are very nice. We stayed in the "luxury" bure with private bath, it was just on the beach and it was beautiful with traditional roof. But the dormitory too is nice and the girls staying there just couldn't decide to leave the place. The food is quite good considering the remote location. I also stayed at Oarsman's Bay, Manta Ray and Kourovo, but even if they were more upscale and the beach at Oarsman's Bay is unique no one has the same authentic feeling as Long Beach.
There is a big lagoon in front of the resort; you can go snorkeling just out of it on the right or on the left, however I discovered just casually that there is wonderful coral in the lagoon itself: just go past the little island on the left (at low tide you can just walk in the shallow water) and when the water becomes deeper there is wonderful, intact coral and lots of fish, including lionfish.

If you go, don't miss the tea with cake that a lady prepares on the beach (the people of the resort will direct you) at 4 o'clock pm. Never eaten such wonderful cakes!

Don't worry, go to Long Beach and enjoy the place!
if you need further information, don't hesitate to write

Hi

I am also looking at staying at Long Beach in Feburary. When you where there did they offer trips to the village, blue lagoon or the caves? Did you book directly through them if so how? or with the accommodation pass?
Do you know if it is possible to SCUBA dive there?

Thanks Christie

Sorry that I didn't reply to this sooner but I would recommend against going to Long Beach. The snorkelling equipment was terrible (all broken, apparently they got sick of kids breaking them and stopped buying new ones), the soap in our room had sand imbedded in its half soapy state from the last visitors, the food was average. I can't remember how I booked....the cake was indeed good but overall our experience at Long Beach was pretty miserable, we ended up leaving early. We didn't get to do the Blue Lagoon either. You can book this through them but unfortunately it peed it down and wasn't on!! : )
