Looking for an island chilled to lay a hammock

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

HI all,

I only have a week in Fiji which is extremely short but I want to make the best of it. I am looking for something similar to the Gilis In Indonesia, fiji way. My partner and I (35 and 28 yo) have got the first two days booked in Nadi, but I am really looking forward to get somewhere other for the rest of it. Looking for a island to lay our hammock on, having enough to do in our surrounding without having the full on backpackers experience or neither the full on resort type luxury. I would really appreciate advice as this was a very last minute decision, got a travel book but much prefer people input. My trip to the Gilis was due to this forum and its was simply sublime!!!
Thank you so much in advance,

Looking forward to hear you tips!

check out Lawaki Beach House on Beqa Island....just fantastic

To get anywhere from this 'resort', do you need to take a boat or how far is the walk?

Lawaki Beach House is on Beqa Island. to get there you have to take a boat from the town of Navua.
Navua is about 3hrs+ bus ride from Nadi heading towards Fiji's capital Suva.

you wrote "Looking for a island to lay our hammock on, having enough to do in our surrounding without having the full on backpackers experience or neither the full on resort type luxury."

so I suggested Lawaki Beach House.

Hi NZtourist, I am thinking of an easy going island like this to take my 3 grandchildren to-----ages 8, 12 and 13. Has to be really good snorkelling and Mantaray and Blue Lagoon prob. too expensive for 5 people. How is the snorkelling off Lakawi island house reef?

the owners have banned fishing 500m up and down the beach in front of Lawaki Beach House.
There is tons of fish and at high tide you can sit on the beach throw out bits of bread and see all the fish jumping for the bread. very safe swimming as well.

try oarsmans bay lodge - next door to blue lagoon - cheaper but still that beautiful beach

Hi

Have you tried Nanuya Island Resort, set on the pristine blue lagoon, or Navutu Stars Resort-they having a 40% last minute special for November travel-really small, intimate-just little paradise.

If travelling is too much then try Namuka Bay Resort-very quiet, all villas are set right on the beach, very cheap as well-, log on trip ad visor to check reviews of mentioned resorts

Namuka-you can get in touch withe them on namukabayresort@yahoo.com
Nanuya -westside@connect.com.fj
Navutu-reservations@navutustarsfiji.com

Let me know how things work

Do check out Caqalai (pronounced Thangalai), it has very very good snorkelling/diving around it, its relatively cheap and the food is very good.

You could get on the hop-on hop-off boat that goes daily up and down the Mamanuca and Yasawa island chains- the beaches are so much cleaner out there than on the main island. The weather is also a lot clearer, it can get a bit cloudy on the mainland. From memory, Manta Ray Island was great. Awesome Adventures run the packages- cheap too :)
