Luxury and Backpack Fiji Wedding

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

I and my partner are travellig to Fiji in July (Peak season, so ticket prices are through the roof!). We are looking to have our wedding ceremony on a beatiful island in a private resort, then spend the rest of the time in "flash-packer" accomodation (since the flights and luxury resort will probably blow our budgets!).

After searching through the MASSES of information, I'm completely perplexed on where to go / how to sepearte our time. So, we're leaving it to the board to help out (if possible :) ). Our requirements are as follows:

"Luxury" Resort (around 250 dollars a night):

  • Perfect beach, water and snorkling (a no-brainer in Fiji :) )
  • beach front accomodation (preferable)
  • No kids and few families (preferbly a "couple" location)
  • Secluded island where good walks, snorkling (again), and can gerally unwind and relax for 7 nights
  • Pefect place for the wedding (just us 2)

Second location (flash/back-packer) (around 50-100 dollars a night)
- Perfect beach, water and snorkling
- An adventurous feel
- Beutiful landscapes
- Great food

I know I'm demanding on this, but ANY advice would be fantastic!! (I hear Yasawa Island is spectacular)

Thanks All!! (PS: You guys helped me get engadged 2 years ago in Thailand, so this is the final bit!!!)

For the wedding stuff, check out Toberua (pronounced "Tomberua") Island, a little bit off Suva. Tiny, deluxe place---but it may be out of your price range.

We'd looked at that place- We were looking at:

  • Navutu Stars Resort: Seems great, though heard the food isn't so good
  • Lalati - Seems fantastic, but we don't know how to get there! ha!
  • Taveuni - A bit out of our budget - again seems amazing!
  • Maravu - Seems awesom, though some have said a little dated (we're 26 and 30 yrs old respectively)
  • Toberua - don't know much about this place, but it comes highly recommended
  • Lomani - Looks great, though some have said there are better places for the price

and for the 7 days backpacking, looking at:

  • Nalaug Bay
  • Oarsman's Bay

Not sure what they're like though

I'd recommend Navutu Stars for the upscale (can not imagine who said bad things about the food)

Oarsman's (right around the island corner) would be a great budget choice with not too much of a let down after Navutu, same beautiful area in the Yasawas

I have just got back from my honeymoon in Fiji and believe me it's not all about tropical paradise. We went in end May/ beginning June and it rained alot. In Fiji when it rains there is nothing to do and its cold because no where is set up to deal with rain.
Accomodation is extremely expensive and generally of a very low standard. A budget backpackers place on the mananucas can set you back $200 a night. One place I would recommend is Nanuya Island resort - very simple but very nice. The N Star place was highly reccommended to us while there and especially for its food, we didn't make it tho so maybe give it a shot. Our plan was to do similar to you with a mix of luxury with backpacker. I'm an avid traveler but my experience of the slightly cheaper ($200 a night) accomodation left me in tears. My advice to you in Fiji is either go luxury or go elsewhere.

#4--Not sure where you stayed, but there are dozens of backpacker places in Fiji that are maybe F$50 or less for a bed. Did your rate include all meals?

Agree with #3, food in Navutu is outstandingly delicious
