mainland diving

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hello,

I've been finding out that most of the ideal diving is on the outer island. Does anyone know of a dive spot around the mainland that hasn't been destroyed yet? Any help would be nice. I'm getting a bad feeling about my options for a good dive off the mainland.

Andrew

If you have not done it already, you may want to check the D&S branch as well.

There's some great diving from Rakiraki - top right of Viti Levu. You can get a taxi or bus there from either Nadi or Suva. Resorts are Volivoli and Wananavu.
Volivoli used to have great dorms which made it very budget-friendly, though I heard they don't have those any more, which would be a shame.

Hello Becks,

Does Rakiraki dive operators go to Rainbow Reef? Thanks!

I would say no… it's more than 100km away! If you want to dive the Rainbow Reef you'll need to get to Taveuni.

If you do a google image search for Vatu-i-ra, you'll see that there's plenty to see from Rakiraki.

There is some OK diving in Beqaa Lagoon. I did a couple of days there; did the shark dive and another day that was a wreck and reef dive.
