| ananta00:58 UTC18 May 2007 | Hi
My husband and I will be in fiji for around nine days towards the end of August. After lots of research we are still undecided about how best to spend our time, we will be coming towards the end of a round the world trip, so we want to relax, enjoy the beaches though we still want to experience some culture and activities.
We were thinking of staying at the Mango Bay Resort on arrival for a few days, as we arrive late at night and seems easier to get to than Octopus (where we are unsure of availability) and then doing a Captain Cook cruise (Thurs/Sun), though we are more than happy to spend time with others, we also want some time to ourselves.
How does this sound?
Also, is there such a thing as 'island price', will we get a good deal if we book direct with hotels over the interet?
If you can help, that would be great, thanks

| wooller200405:47 UTC22 May 2007 | Hi there,
I'm in a similar position to you. Myself and a friend are meeting up in August for a week in Fiji and trying to sort accomodation. We want relaxing rather than activities/partying (i'm recovering from a knee operation so anything more than snorkelling will be too much I think) and our first choice was the Octopus but they were fully booked apart from dorms. I looked at the Mango Bay and that certainly looks like fun but maybe a bit too full on for what we want from this holiday. Treasure Island and Paradise both look stunning but are out of our price range but may fit well into your plans - I don't have their site addresses but you can google them easily enough. The Oarsman Lodge looks more affordable and they have availability for our dates. Waisalima Lodge also looks good but they haven't, as yet, returned my email. Other than that I'm gonna keep on searching until the end of the week and then make a decision but at the moment its looking like the Oarsman.

| jaemmerson04:46 UTC02 Jun 2007 | Hi! Oarsman is apparently a lot more expensive nowadays, but I would suggest that or Octopus over Mango Bay. Mango Bay is a great place for partying/doing 18-25 year old type stuff and is nice but certainly not as relaxing as other places in fiji (every few nights fiji experience stops there and it literally heaves!!) Try and get somewhere in the yasawas. The beaches are better than on the coral coast and so is the snorkelling, and can be sociable, but not in the drunken party type way.
