| stanaway13:38 UTC22 Apr 2007 | Hi
Anyone out there who have been to MantaRay Resort in Fiji? Looking for a place to spend about a week with my young teenage daughter and we thought their tree house sounds like us, but noone seem to have heard of the place. What's the beach like? The food? etc...
Cheers!

The beach is okay (but while I was there in Jan their was a lot of debris from a volcano in Tonga that I guess isn't normally there) and the snorkeling on the beach there is some of the best in the Yasawas. Diving company is the best in the Yasawas. Food was the best of the places I stayed there-- all you can eat buffet stype and the chef is great!!! As far as accommodation itself, the dorm was really nice, don't know about the other stuff.
But I rave about Manta Ray from a backpacker perspective... I'm not sure about bringing a young teenager there (guess it depends on how young... 13 vs. 17 would be a huge difference). It was almost all backpackers and a few couples while I was there. There was not anybody under 18... and the only person over 35 was a 50-something guy sailing around the world by himself. It wasn't Beachcomber with the party atmosphere, but there was definitely partying going on.
Have you looked at Oarsmans or Octopus? They both have awesome beaches, and nice accomodation. (Oarsmans wins the beach and snorkeling ; Octopus the food and accomodation/facilities). They aren't as backpacker centered and attract a wider range of age groups. All three places (Oarsmans, Octopus, Manta Ray) are very close in price... extra activities at Octopus cost more than the other two though, and not as much is included. Feel free to email me if you want more info. NDL51583@aol.com. Please put something about Fiji in the subject line though because I get tons of spam.

The beach is not amazing but is still perfectly good for lazing around - sandy and pretty enough. The food is brill, all you can eat buffet. Nice place to relax but it might be worth splitting the time up between there and octopus/oarsman (4 nights manta ray, 3 nights octopus/oarsman). Have a good trip. Jamie
