Military Takeover in Fiji???

Hi, I was only LP website about Fiji. It said there was a military coup/takeover this past december. Did this really happen? Is it still going on? Is it safe to go there? Appreciate any info. Thanks, Lori

It happened while I was there, but ,apart from roadblocks for a few weeks, I wouldn't have noticed. I have been there twice since then, and it is perfectly safe to visit. The army commander is now the prime minister and the country is hoping to have elections around 2009. Life goes on as normal in Fiji and there is no reason to let the coup put you off.
