Money In Fiji (islands)

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Me and my girlfriend are arriving in Nadi on October. We are planning to travel round the Yaswas and the Manuca (sp?) islands using the 21 day Bula Pass. We want to use the whole 21 days as we are in Fiji for 28 days. How much money will we need to take for 21 days for 2 people? Are we able to book all accomodation on the mainland before we leave? Would anywhere take debit card? Were looking to stay at just hostels to keep the price down and maybe a couple of nights of drinking and possibly a dive aswell.

many thanks

NI sa bula dano1987 - The Yasawas are beautiful, as are most islands in Fiji, but I understand they are some of the more expensive. Viti Levu (the main island) and Vanua Levu (the 2nd biggest island are relatively easy to correct travel screw-ups, some of the others aren't. I haven't used a Bula Pass as I have family on the main island and friends elsewhere, but I recommend doing more reading. Beware of "tourist desks" even if at hotels, they may not be reliable when booking accomadation and flights. Instead ring ahead, October is in the cross-over period between dry and wet seasons and can be pretty busy, so always have plan b & c as backup. Visit the site "Fijime" as it is pretty up to date with accomadation costs etc. The main towns have ATMs at leasxt on Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, and Taveuni. I usually carry enough money for accomadation and food but that's it. Fiji is very safe, safer than most western countries, but but luck still finds people.
