mosquito nets?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hello, am off to figi for 2 weeks from the midle of june to the end of june, and wondered if a mosquito net was neccessary?? (i am travelling to oz and nz beforehand and would rather not carry it thorugh them)

And also in your experience whats the best recommended place to go snorkelling in figi??

THankyou!

Mosquito nets, the resorts had them if your close to the ocean the breeze keeps them away. I didn't find the mosquito a problem at all. Of course i've been to baren lands in canada were mosquitos can kill and they laugh at bug spray.

For snokelling i was in yasawa island group and it was all great everwhere. Manta ray was incredible and the blue lagoon. Its was way better than oz, twice the vis and more colors.

Everywhere that a net was necessary the resort had it. But if you tend to be a target of mozzies (seems some people have no problem, but some get eaten alive-- i'm one of them!) I would bring plenty of good bug spray with you. It's all crazy expensive there and I went through tons. It's also hard to find the good stuff there (aka the kind with DEET) and if you do the price it through the roof.

Oh yah, for good snorkeling... Manta Ray forsure... Oarsmans was also good as was Octops.

Agree with #2 - I've just got back from Fiji and was a real feast for the mozzies. I got most of the bites sitting outside in the evenings though, so a mozzie net wouldn't have helped. One place we stayed had nets anyway, the other didn't seem to have many insects in the room, just outside. Take some supplies of the strongest repellent you can find and use it liberally.
