Nadi tips

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

hi,
i am flying through Nadi on my way home to melbourne. I have to stay one night in nadi and i was wondering if someone could recommend a good, cheap hostel - and (importantly as i am now out of money!) how to get there cheaply on public transport from the airport.
Also is nadi expensive?
and is there any airport tax that i need to pay when i leave?
thanks
sarah

The Kontiki Private Hotel is near the airport and usually has a driver waiting to meet incoming flights in case anyone needs a room. I had a nice single with private bathroom - with masses of hot water! - for F$20. All rooms come with a completmentary tea or coffee and toast breakfast, there's a communal kitchen for cooking for yourself and a nice pool. I think there are dorm rooms as well. I expect the price has gone up since I was last there, however it could be an option for you. It's also near a local bus stop for buses to and from Nadi.

Nadi is not expensive (at least not by Australian standards).

Visitors to Fiji are required to pay $30.00 departure tax in Fijian currency following check-in. Children under 12 are exempt as are people in transit (in Fiji for less than 12 hours). This tax is included in most holiday packages. There's no tax departure tax on domestic flights.

Usually one does not have to pay a departure tax when the stay in the country is less than 24 hours (being a transit by that).
