We stayed 2 nights at the Safari Lodge, which was very disappointing. We had booked a 'private double' for 90F$ and on arrival were put in a room in the main house. The room was very small and the bathroom was shared with the rest of the house. When we complained we were put in a room in the 'villa' on the hill. There are only two rooms here which share a bathroom and a very nice kitchen. Unfortunately there were no curtains and everybody could look into your room from the balcony. The walls are very thin and you could hear everything in the room next door. There was a nice balcony, but the whole place is one big building site for the next couple of years. The whole hill was ripped open by a digger. The worst were the mosquitos. You could hardly have lunch outside without being eaten alive. The meal plan was good, but it is cheaper to go to the restaurants at Bethams or MacDonalds. The bungalow near the beach looked very nice, but was at more than 200F$ way overpriced like the rest of the accommodation. It is the only accommodation with private bathroom at this place. For us it was a ripoff. The beach in front of the Safari Lodge was very nice and they employ a windsurf teacher and a kite surf teacher. 100m down the beach is a new place just opening, 'The Bungalows'. It looked very fancy and cost about 250F$. 5 minutes walk away on the other side of the island are Charlies, Bethams and MacDonalds. The last two are about the same in appearance and price. Each room has it's own bathroom and kitchen. The cheaper rooms are 90F$, the beachside units 120F$. If business is slow you may get a beachside unit for 90F$. A bed in the dorm is 25F$. There is no meal plan, but both have restaurants. At MacDonald you have to order your dinner before 3PM. The menu changes every day. Only very good pizza is availible every day. A large one is 25F$ and enough for two. The other meals for dinner are around 17F$. There are almost no mosquitos here. There are plenty of sun chairs and hammocks at the beach. We stayed another 3 nights at MacDonalds and loved it. If you stay on this side, it's a 5 minute walk to the other side of the island over a small hill to the nicer beach. Charlies place looked a lot more basic than the other places. All the places can organise all the activities or you can do it yourself on the island. Don't book more than one night in advance. If you have a bus to catch on the mainland, make sure, that your boat leaves at least one hour before. They are never on time, but the buses are! A lot of people ran late and missed their transport.

| bougy11:28 UTC09 May 2007 | Very nice description of today situation. I was there 15 years ago and I liked hikes. The bay was getting to much green grass, sign of seeping sewer from septics of Betham's and Mc Donald's. But it is in every village same on all islands. Have got the famous sunset pictures.
