Nananu-ira or Taveuni

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hello!

I have limited amount of time in Fiji- only 10 days and don't want to run around all over the place too much. I am very keen to try some really good diving (preferably with good amount and diversity of living creatures rather then just corals), as well as some good hiking (uphill, waterfalls, villages).

Heard Nananu-i-ra has some good diving, as well as Taveuni. Taveuni apparently has some good hiking too. Is there much to do in nananu-i-ra? Or shouldn't i bother withTaveuni, since going after all to Yasawas and can do some hiking there? Do you know any good not too expenssive places to stay in Nananu-i-ra?

Thanks heaps!
D.

OMG, how could hiking on the small, largely barren Yasawas and big, densely forested Taveuni be the same?
On either of these, villages are along the coast though.
The island where you can hike through interior villages is Viti Levu.

Taveuni seems to fit your requirements better. Nananui-ra is quite barren compared to Taveuni - and smaller, and there are no villages (just a small settlement of local people who work on the island). I spent a week on Nananu-i-ra last year and struggled to find much to do. Taveuni has walks, waterfalls and diving.

OMG, thank you for your advice.

But how about diving?

Hi Have been to Taveuni twice and highly recommend it Diving is great It has the Rainbow Reef.

Try a few days at Dolphin Bay Divers it is very quaint and out of the way.Look at their web site. On Taveuni we recommend Bibis Hideaway and the Lavena coastal walk

Have fun
