Nanuya Island Resort - Fiji

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi,

Has anyone been to Nanuya Island Resort in the Yasawa Group in Fiji?

Thanks

Hi,

I stayed on Nanuya Island Resort when it first opened a couple of years ago. It is an island located next to the famous Turtle Island, where they made the movie "The Blue Lagoon". In fact, some of the movie was filmed on the beach where Nanuya Island Resort is located. These days the beach is pretty much destroyed as it is the location for numerous Captain Cook cruises. The only pristine section left was a very small section on the very far tip of the island - the further away from the resort. The beach is very average in front of the resort and is tidal. Hence, for a good part of the day it is too shallow to swim in. You can walk around to the further part of the beach, however - as mentioned - at least 3 times a week there are cruise ships docked off your beach and you get to share the sand with 100s of people.

The resort itself was very nice. The food was excellent.

Apart from the cruise ships invading your space, I found the owners desire to attract back packers from the otherside of the island to stay and drink at the resort until all hours very annoying. As I said, the resort's beachfront is very small - maybe 100 metres. So, when you have to share what little space you have with loud, annoying, drunk backpackers from the cheaper resorts - you one why you paid more for the "luxury".

All in all... 2 to 3 nights to explore the island and swim is more than sufficient.

Happy travels.

Hi, I have just spent a weekend at Nanuya Island Resort and wish I could have stayed a week. It was a wonderful experience, the staff were great , the food - fantastic - great chef, the treehouse bure - small but comfortable - with tea/coffee/mini fridge in room, the view from our balconey was fantastic, the water was crystal clear and perfect for swimming. The management are aware of the damage caused to the adjacent reef and have a coral farming project underway.
On each day we were there a Blue Lagoon Cruise ship was at the other end of the island, but we did not see any passengers from the ships come to the resort in fact we wondered to their end of the island for a swim between ships. Westside watersports provide a lot of options for water activities.
I would not hesitate to recommend this Nanuya to anyone, we had an excellent time and look forward to our next visit.
Also, they have wireless internet in the lounge for anyone who needs it and interestingly they have a no mobile phone policy in the lounge/restaurant area which is great - nothing more annoying than ringing mobile phones when relaxing. The mobile phone reception is excellent al throughout the islands if you need - purchase a sim card at the airport.

Hope this has helped and that you spend some of your fiji holiday at Nanuya - you wont be sorry.

i would stay at the back side of nanuya resort, which is long beach resort. noah or his family can take you to the blue lagoon. youll lont see anybody at his resort and they have an excellent lagoon complimented by a long stretch sand (hence the name). Not too mnay tourists discovered this place as the flyer dont usually stop there to pick up or drop passengers. it has to be "special request". noah will respond by radio to the flyer rep and he'll approach the flyer with his 6footer.

noah, hope you didnt make this one on of the mamanucas resorts yet. otherwise ill be disapointed ;(
