Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

I have to write about it - in 29.08.11 we are, 3 Russian persons, booked kayaking from Discover Fiji Tours. I payed before trip from my card. When we reached the point on the Navua River where from we must start down on kayak - our gides told to us that they forgot to put pump to blow kayaks!! When we came to office, they promice to give back money to my card during 3 working days. 9 days go on. I still dont get money. The chief of this company dont answer. Mr. Scott, who made signature on the letter, promised to back money - is not the signatory. I have to think, they was not going to back money to me, they just stole my money. I have to connect with ANZ Bank in Suva, and Tourists Police in Nadi. Need a help - can somebody write to me e-mail address of Tourists Police in Nadi???!!

Doe Fiji actually have tourist police? Australia certainly doesn't. You are in a developing country - refunds may take longer to process than they would at home. The best thing to do is contact our bank which issued the card.

1

If they don't give you a refund just do a charge back on your credit card.

You should wait a week or two before advising your bank/credit card company - as in reply 1., it takes time for refunds to be processed there. I was overcharged twice for accommodation in Fiji last year - both times it took more than two weeks after they said they would issue refunds for the funds to show up in my account.

Fiji do have tourist police, but you would be better contacting the Nadi Police station, which probably doesn't have an email available to the public. You will need to make statements, which probably can be done through the nearest Fijian embassy, or scanned and emailed to the Police Commisioners department in Suva. Nonetheless contact the Nadi Police station first, they may have had trouble with this company before.

Fiji police can also be great, or really lazy. If they are the lazy type call the Police Commissioner in Suva. With the army in control of the government, one good outcome for tourists is the higher level beauraucrats are very eager to please.

Good luck, I had a similar experience in Sigatoka. It's unfortunate because for all the years me and my family have visited and/or lived in Fiji, this type of thing is rare, but pops up now and then.

Nadi Tourist Police got no email address, they did all their stuff manually, and it takes months and years to processed a case even Nadi Police Station, dont think about it, Forward your complain to Suva Police Headquaters or speak to the commisioner of Police if you need this to be sorted... I have been thru thiz and I assured you that i know and fully understand what im talking about..
Got a situation in Nadi, I actually reported my case @ Nadi Police Station and end up being counselling by the officer who took my case, isnt that frustating enough, similar violent case happens to me on July,2011 and I decided to contact Central Police Station in Suva, within 5-10 mins they sorted it out just for a single phone call....thumbs up to you...CPS!
