Octopus rate rise

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Seems that Octopus has put their rates up - by about 20% judging by the advertised rates on their website.

Their prices have gone up by nearly 30%! We had a booking with them and recently received an email notifying of the price increase. New prices are effective immediately from Oct 1 for new bookings and from Jan 1 for existing bookings. Well, our existing booking is from Jan 1- so guess who is getting the raw end of the deal? They are somewhat sympathetic but 'have to follow what they are being told'. Am looking at other options right now.

#!---If you tell them by e-mail that you will cancel if they charge you the new rate, they may make an "exception just for you" if they are not very busy for Jan 1 and on. Worth a shot.

I doubt that Octopus will feel threatened by a cancellation; they're heavily booked. Given what a good deal (by exorbitant Fijian standards) it was, this sad turn of events isn't surprising, although it is disappointing.

Octopus was fully booked even in March after the coup. It is one of the nicest places in Fiji and worth the money. If they send you an email confirming the rate, bring a print with you. Billing is not the strongest point of the management. A lot of things get mixed up, prices rise, wrong bar taps appear on your bill and the tourist tax is even added on top of the school fund. Check your bill carefully and take your time. It can take 2 hours to pay your bill on the last day.
We stayed at one of the brand new garden bungalows which were great value. They don't have an own bathroom, but the bathroom of the dorms was really big, nice and clean with fresh flowers every day. The food is good and changes every day. Lunch is a choice of about a dozen choices from a big blackboard. It's very sozial with big tables, no doubles. They also offer a daily activity which may or may not be free, including hiking to the summit of the island or a full day snorkeling tour around Waya. It's a good place for families and the only places with a pool in the Yasawas. The snorkeling off the beach is good for the Yasawas.
