One Way entry and boats/ferries around FijiCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
Hi everyone, I'm heading over to Fiji in August on a one way ticket, and just wondering if anyone has any info/experience on entering the country on a one way ticket and if it should be ok (i know that officially, you're meant to have onward travel ) for getting in, ie are they rigourous in their checks... also, where is a good place to look for information on boats between other pacific islands?,meaning private boats, ferries and so on as a viable alternative to air travel. have been looking a little bit on the net but information is rather sparse and would appreciate some help! any information greatly received! thanks
Basically, there are no scheduled boats between the Pacific Islands countries, only within them. You might need to look at yacht sites. | 1
id imagine theyd potentially block entry to you unless you had an onward ticket (esp if you were from a country that doesnt get along with their current government). I'd certainly have a good sounding exit story preped just incase and cash to show you can pay your way for your stay. it will be expensive if do refuse entry and you need to fly out asap but maybe I'm being over cautious? nice place though. | 2
I entered Fiji twice, and wasn't asked for the onward tickets - which does not mean they could not ask you, of course. | 3
If you are departing from an Australian airport they will ask to see or return or onward journey ticket - not sure what happens if you don't have one - -- good luck. | 4
From NZ - last year my husband & I travelled separately to Fiji - he got lucky & went a week before me. We were coming back on the same flight though - so I kept all that information with me so he didn't manage to lose it. BUT - Air New Zealand would not let him on the outward flight to Fiji without the return ticket - fortunately they managed to retrieve it from their own booking system. | 5
No-one in Fiji checked if I had an onward ticket, but they did in New Caledonia where I flew from. | 6
I fly to Fiji all the time from Australia (every 3 months) and no one has ever asked me to show my return ticket... I usually travel their with Air Pacfic and back with Pacific Blue so at check in it looks like I have a one way ticket and I have never had trouble,,, I fly out of Brisbane airport,, no sure if other states question more... | 7
