Outrigger - Coral Coast

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi there,
Staying at the Outrigger on the Coral Coast for 10 nights as part of a group for a wedding. Im having trouble in researching the area and hoping someone can help...
Are there areas outside of the resort to eat and pick up essentials (like a mini mart)? Can we get out the resort and walk to a town as such to try local places? We prefer to eat out of resorts in little local eateries but for some reason I am imagining a reort in the middle of no-where with nothing around.
Also, can anyone recommend a cost effective transfer service from the airport to the resort?
Thank you

for transfer to outrigger, the cheapest will be bus, they call into the airport but not sure what time your flight arrives, you could check Pacific, Sunbeam or others to see what are their airport pick up times, if there is more than one of you, you could pick up a taxi, which would not be that expensive. just make sure the driver has his meter turned on when you start, Outrigger is a bit isolated and you will need to get a bus to Sigatoka to experience the town and some other eateries and supermarkets. another option to which you can also probably walk, but otherwise a short taxi ride is Koco's for some good food, http://coralcoastfiji.org/restaurants/kokos-bar. Just opposite the outrigger and down the hill a bit is an eco park with birds and wildlife which is worth a visit.

There are one or two resorts and restaurants within walking distance, to the west of the Outrigger. The Outrigger itself has a mini mart with essentials. Otherwise for general shopping the town of Sigatoka is a few kms away but it should be possible to summon a taxi. One of the characteristics of the resorts on the Coral coast is their isolation from one another and from settlements and facilities.
The Outrigger may have its own free transfer service from the airport, or one which is economical if shared with other tourists.
