Pearl South Pacific Hotel & Casinos

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hello,

Just have 3 questions....

  1. Anybody stayed at the Pearl South Pacific Hotel? Is it a decent hotel? I've read some good AND bad posts about it. Is it worth checking out?

  2. I read about a casino being built on the mainland of Fiji. Is it up and ready?

  3. How much does it cost to have a taxi take you from the south side to the north side of the mainland?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Andrew

I've been to the Pearl many times and stayed there twice, its not better or worse than other places, they have a nice pool, the food is OK, the sand beach is average but swimable, and its easy to visit some of the local attractions eg the Navua River or Beqa
not sure what you mean from the south side to the north side, if its from the Pearl to Raki Raki, I would take a bus, but taxis here are very cheap, about $50FJ from the Pearl to Suva,

  1. No
  2. Work in progress and on halt due to disputes between the government and the construction company.
  3. Why not consider bus. Will cost you less than a dollar.

How long does the bus take to get to the north side from the south?

Thanks,

Andrew

this is the timetable for the Sunbeam bus, its longer by the Kings highway which goes around the north, the road to Raki Raki has improved and it takes about 2 hours by car now from Suva, of course the bus would be making more stops Its about 4 hours to go from Lautoka to Suva via the queens highway, from the Pearl to Suva is about 1 hour and not sure how quickly the buses connect, but there are little buses which do a quick service if you don't have luggage.

The Pearl Hotel is great. However if your'e looking for something different I know of a 3 bedroom Villa across the road from the Pearl, which will be available for the month of January. If interested email arcole@connect.com.fj

We just returned from a weeks stay at the Pearl of the South Pacific late last month. We really enjoyed our stay there. The staff was great, the buffet breakfast was good and plentiful, the room quiet, clean and comfortable, and the public areas very comfortable.

It's located right on the beach, and the view across the Pacific to Bequa Island is breath-taking. It is also right next to the harbor.

We also enjoyed the pool area and the daily free activities that were broadcast the evening before in a publication they call "The Daily Pearl." WE did things like coconut grating, attended a Fjij cooking class, which was more of a demonstration than a class, saw how they prepared a LOVO, and many other activities.

We ate twice at the hotel including daily breakfast. Other times we took a 10 minute walk down the highway to restaurants at the Arts Village.

We also took the bus from The Pearl to Suva. You can catch any bus going in that direction. It costs about $FJD 5. We took the Sunbeam bus back. You can take either the Sunbeam or the Pacific. It takes about 1 hour as mentioned above.

I wouldn't bother with taking a taxi as it can be very expensive. The bus service is very inexpensive and good. Both Sunbeam and Pacific transport offer large air-conditioned coaches with movies or music for entertainment. We took Pacific transport from the Nadi International Airport to The Pearl, and paid only $FJD12 pp for a 3 hour ride. You can't beat that.
