Possibility of work... urgent..

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi there,

I am currently in oz on a round the world ticket.. My money is running very low and i am hoping to get a job in fiji.. i'm not bothered what i'd be doing .. waitressing, barwork, hostels etc.. I would be REALLY grateful on advice of where abouts i am likely to find such work. I will have 6weeks or so and it would be useful even to know wher i may be able to 'woof' as they call it here.. Just board and food for my work..

I would be SO grateful for any advice..
Cheers

There are plenty of locals in Fiji right now who would like to get those jobs if they existed. No way will you get a work visa so if the money situation is that bad - skip Fiji.

Forget it as far as that level and type of work is concerned. Offer a skill that can't be provided by locals, and even then be prepared to work on a volunteer basis. So if you need money, think of a different solution to your problem.

2

Your only chance might be to do some cleaning etc at a budget place in exchange for a bed in a dorm. If you actually want to earn real money, you'd have to have a great deal of luck, as there are thousands of Fijians who would gladly work for the same job.

Your best bet would be to earn the $$$ in OZ before you continue your travels, if that is possible.

I echo what people have said already.... It would be pretty much impossible to get a paid job in Fiji. I don't know of wwoofing in Fiji..

In the unlikely event that you'd be able to get work you'd be taking food out of the mouths of people who are really, really poor compared with you. In comparison you just don't know what poverty is.
