rental accommodation in Suva

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi all,
I am heading to Fiji in June for 3-4 months (studying). I am wondering if anyone has any info on the best way to go about finding rental accommodation (in Suva) eg good websites etc. Or if maybe some of the hostels do good long term rental deals?
Thank you so much for any help
Kate

The classified ads in the Fiji Times newspaper always contain a lot of rentals. Here's their online version:

You can also negotiate weekly or monthly rates almost any of the hotels that have kitchens, such as Sunset Apartments.

I'd check out the areas vis those websites, but I'd actually wait and check the places out in person. Also, if you rent from the owner rather than through an agent it will be cheaper. Look for mozzie screens on the windows, and doors that actually lock. Ceiling fans are a must. You probably will not be able to rent a place with AC, if you do it will be very expensive. Plan on buying a pedestal fan so you can move it around at night, from LR to BR, etc.

Check the bus routes as well.

The hilly area behind Suva is pretty nice, and there are some houses for rent. Or, you may find some people looking for a roommate, etc.

Thank you so much Raro.
Will definately not jump into anything before I have seen it in person and will also heed all your other advice re mozzie screens etc.
Thanx heaps!
