| stu_brown14:05 UTC30 Jan 2007 | Hey Am about to fly to fiji on the ninth of feb for a week. have been researching places to visit in that seven days? this question has been asked about a million times im sure and i have looked at various posts but would still like to post the question. am looking for a place with good facilities and a beach near by. trying to avoid nadi and also suva as this would invalidate my insurance? anybody been anywhere they can totally recommend recently? also my girlfriend gets eaten alive by mosquitos and am slightly concerned that they will feast. will a traditional style bure(?) be ok for her to stay in? thanks for your help Stu

| bulabear13:16 UTC31 Jan 2007 | I recommend Leleuvia Island, the bures are located on the wind site - unless the wind isn't coming from the wrong direction (but nature is unpredictable), you don't have much of a mossi problem. They do also provide moskito nets. For the evenings outside you should have some mosquito repellent in your bag. It's funny I always think that mosquitoes are really looking for the freshest blood, we never get botheresd much here, but all newcomers do. To get to Leleuvia you will have to go to the Suva bus station (which is located on the other side of town then the government buildings) and from there you can catch the bus to Nausori. But anyway, talk to citizens of Suva - especially taxi drivers, the city is safer then the last 10 years!

| raro01:49 UTC01 Feb 2007 | 3-- Yes, the mozzies never bother me, but new guests, esp. those heading inland, are the targets. In talking to a lot of them over the years, I've concluded that a lot of visitors love the fact that papayas are so cheap here, and they eat a lot of them the first few days (and mangos in season). And when they sweat, that nice fruity smell attracts a lot of mozzies!

Mind you, I'd avoid Nadi anyway just 'cos I don't think it's that nice! Have heard Suva's better but I'm not sure.
