resorts???Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
Question for a period of about 15 years I went to Fiji about 7 times usually staying a month at a time and travelling to the outer islands and staying in small family owned resorts and having the time of my life. After about 30 years thinking of going back but when I look at the forums the resorts all look big and touristy and very expensive(we can afford it, but why).do those small resorts that might only have 3 or 4 bures still exist the ones we're looking for are on the smaller more difficult islands to get to. thanks for any help out there
Have a look at Nananu-i-ra Island. It still offers a couple of small family run places called Betham's and McDonalds(sp?). About a few hours from the airport (bus or taxi) - a boat ride from Ellington Wharf. It has been a number of years since we visited but it still seems to be a quiet island - offers some hiking, snorkeling/diving and wind surfing to occupy your time if so desired! | 1
there are more small resorts on the east side of the main island, I have been to Nananu-i-ra and it was very windy, that is why they wind surf there, You could visit some different islands if you looked at the local cruises, about 70 passengers, and different island depending how long the cruise is. I really enjoyed a 7 day cruise but there is a longer one that goes to some of the outer islands, eg Lau. | 2
