Sawa-i-Lau Caves

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi,

We are traveling to Fiji for a week and staying on the coral coast.

We want to get up and see the Sawa-i-Lau caves, but are unsure whether this is possible due to the location we are staying in (the south).

If anyone has any information on whether this is possible, it would be really appreciated.

Thanks :)

No, you can't realistically visit them as a day trip from the Coral Coast.

Thanks for that.

Do you have any idea how long it would take to get there?

2

It's a long day trip from Nadi.
Add however long it takes to get to Nadi from wherever you will be on the Coral Coast.

To visit the caves you would have to be staying at a resort in the Yasawas. To stay at a resort on Nacula Island which would be about the closest, you would first have to travel there on the Yasawa Flyer, which leaves Denarau Marina (Nadi) at 8.30am daily, arriving at Nacula around 1pm. From those resorts (eg Blue Lagoon Beach Resort, or Oarsmans) it takes around 25 -30 minutes in a small boat to reach the caves.

There is a day cruise offered out of Nadi to Sawa-i-Lau Cave.

5

You could always charter a float plane from Turtle Airways for about $1,800 per hour. :-)
From the Nadi area and back would be about 90 minutes flying time, at a guess.

Cheers,
Peter

Thanks for all the replies guys. Sounds like its probably best to just factor that in for our next visit (and stay in a resort closer!).
