schoolies

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

were going to beachcomber for schoolies, but apparently the drinking age has changed to 21. is this true? if its not does any one know the actual drinking age?
some 17 yr olds will be going, will they be able to drink?
ahh, help! haha

What?

1

The lowest the drinking age would be is 18 anyway, and since they are 17 even then they would not be allowed to drink. Are you encouraging them to drink, despite their age??

2

They will still be able to drink regardless of what the 'legal' drinking age is. Beachcomber is not going to be asking for ID, so dont worry.

What does "Beachcomber for schoolies" mean?

4

Schoolies is the name for the week after the final high school exams in Australia. Groups of 18 year olds take over places like the Gold Coast to celebrate.

Given the problems that have been experienced previously with Schoolies in Fiji the resorts may be on top of this by now... chances are you won't get a drink. And the result won't be throwing up in the gutter and a slap on the wrist as it is in Australia..... there are much tougher penalties for underage drinking in Fiji....watch out.

The legal drinking age for Australia is 18. Schoolies is no different.
