Thanks!

| bulabear03:38 UTC18 Sep 2007 | Current situation: if there would not be the news you wouldn't know that there is a political problem, everything is quiet and normal and probably safer than in most cities of the globe. International schools ( and Kindergarten) are in Nadi, Suva and Pacific Harbour (only Primary). Those are not cheap. Then you find schools from all kind of churches, Muslim schools and public ( government) schools. The curriculum is based on the New Zealand curriculum, and especially in higher classes pretty demanding. The teaching depends very much on the teacher (like everywhere), some teachers are very good and use more modern methods, whereas you have others, using ancient methods and just let the kids memorize and repeat same things all over again, until they can repeat it, but not comprehend what they said! Unfortunately it still happens that teachers come to school still completely doped from the last night's grog (kawa) session and then ask the kids to sit still for the next hours, so they can sleep. But mostly I find that teachers have generally a very good relation to their students, and that students still have respect for their teachers and learn to be polite. Schools is generally from 8 am to 3 pm, secondary until 4 pm. Most schools teach in English, only he schools in the villages use more Fijian. Regarding Kindergarten: for my taste I find that the little ones have to "study" too much and don't get enough time to play.

They have just started at St. Thomas in Lautoka, and seem to be happy there too. Fees for non international schools in Fiji are very cheap to foreigners. I think I paid less than 100 FJD for both of them for the last term.
