| kiarasimone17:32 UTC05 Jul 2007 | Hey everyone,
I am taking my boyfriend to Fiji for his birthday in November, just some questions about where to go and what to do.
For nightlife i read that it is best in the capital... but is there lovely beaches, diving and accommodation there aswell? Most of the trip will be about diving and partying. Please help me :) would so appreciate it.
I havent booked anything yet.
What is the best hotel that is not too expensive but is still gorgeous preferbably right on the beach.
How long does it take to get a bus from the capital to the north bit of the island where the best diving is?
Thnakyou for your help.
Kiara :)

Nightlife is pretty good as long as you are careful and observe the usual precautions- don't flash your cash and take registered taxis everywhere etc.... I'm almost scared to write this, given the reaction on this forum to any mention of Uprising, but this would be a good base for travel to Suva, as it is less than an hours drive ( taxi about FJD45) and is right on the first decent beach outside Suva. They can arrange diving, river rafting etc. I have never been to the north of the island so can't really comment on bus times etc. I wouldn't stay in Suva unless I really had to, though.

| imacd08:22 UTC06 Jul 2007 | Uprising (uprisingbeachresort.com) is a new beach resort at Pacific Harbour which just opened a few months ago. It has a bunkhouse for backpackers and private beachfront units for couples etc. Prices are around FJD130 for the private rooms. It has pretty good nightlife at the weekend and, like I said, is a good place to base yourself for nights/days out in Suva. There are a couple of dive operators in Pac Harbour, who take divers out to the island of Beqa which you can see from the beach at Uprising. I think they offer shark feeding, there is white water rafting, horse riding, and, I believe there is good surfing around there too. As for Suva. O'Reillys, Bad Dog Cafe and Trapps are all popular bars to start off in. Ask around in these bars, or in the Resort, to find out which night clubs are popular. Fights do break out in Suva's bars, but are usually taken outside by the bouncers pretty quickly. It's all part of the fun of being in Suva. Enjoy it, but, as I say , be careful. There are a lot of unemployed youths around Suva and some of them do resort to crime, but the bars I mentioned above are pretty safe and there are lots of taxis and cops around the street where the bars are. I usually visit Fiji for a couple of weeks every 3 or 4 months when work commitments allow and really enjoy it. It's not slick and nothing happens very quickly, but it has a certain charm which keeps making people come back.
