Single females travelling to Taveuni Island, Fiji

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

We will traveling to Tavenui in June for a diving trip. Upon review of many the resorts, they appear to be flooded with honeymooners. Can anyone recommend a 2-3 star place that provides the option to meet a variety of travellers and has a bit of nightlife.

Thanks for your imput,

Holly

nightlife at Taveuni is not equal to as nightlife in disco - it might be nightlife under the moon with Fijian songs accompanied by guitar and/or Ukulele, by a bowl of grog (kawa), may be some dancing. I is not true that you find only honeymooners, there are places catering for singles and couples who are not having a honeymoon, I recommend Dolphin Bay divers. They are located NOT at Taveuni but a short distance opposite Taveuni Island and actually much closer to all the famous dive spots, such as the "White wall". And probably you will have a ball there! But no disco.

My experience fits #1. The majority of people taking one week dive vacations are mainly interested in the diving. They're often with 2 dives a day packages and don't want to ruin themselves with 'nightlife'. So it is all fairly tame in that respect. Maybe a beer or two in the late afternoon or with the evening meal. Sitting around in the evening chatting. Maybe a lovo or kava night...overall, the nightlife atmosphere will depend on who is at the resort during any given week.

Some resorts might have honeymooners, but 'flooded' is an over exaggeration. On the other hand, the resorts at the north of Taveuni, around Matei, were mostly isolated 'private property' types of places which I do not like. Too separated from Fiji. There was a good resort in the south 'Susies Plantation' which unfortunately is now more upmarket with a new owner and new name.

The place #1 mentions is over on Vanua Levu? I wasn't there to look at the place, but it might be better for the atmosphere you seem to want.

Also, I'm not sure what you mean by 'a variety of travelers'. Again, the majority of people on Fiji are on short vacation holidays, package variety or otherwise. The only place in Fiji where I met a high percentage of longer-term travelers was Ovalau Island.

You should go to Dolphin Bay Divers but not for the night-life. It´s a very calm place with nice and very casual staff and owners but if you are divers it´s absolutely perfect located. Rainbow Reef is absolutely one of the bettter place you will find in Fiji for diving and the best thing with Dolphin Bay is that you have 5-10 minutes by boat to the different dive spots as it´s located on the other side of Somosomo Strait. If you stay on Taveuni you will have to spend an hour to get to most of the dive sites.

Not 2-3 star place however.

Taveuni is a "slow" place but has nice nature but it´s really the diving that is the reason why to go there.

Have a look at our travel reports and pictures from our "Around The World In 365 Days" trip and have a deeper look into the place and what you can find under the water.

Best regards
