six hours in Nadi AirportCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
Does anyone know anywhere to go, or anything to do near the Nadi Airport in Fiji. I have a six hour layover.
We negotiated with a taxi driver for him to drive us around the Nadi area all afternoon for $50 Fj. Took us to Denaru Island, past his own village to a hillside so we could get a view of Nadi, and also into the city and waited while we shopped. He also suggested that there were some nice Gardens but we ran out of time. Need to negotiate what time your trip will finish, where you want him to drop you at the end, and how much you will pay. Payment is made at the end of the trip. Our chap was so nice, he invited us to visit with him and his wife when next in Fiji. We ended up giving him an extra $10 Fj. Don't know if the rates are good or not. The important thing is that we were happy and so was he. | 1
If it is a nice day and you just want to relax you could walk across the road to Raffles Hotel and hang out at their pool. Not sure of the cost for this, if any. We chose to have a day room so we could rest and shower - cost about $65Fjn. A number of people hang out here between flights. | 2
go to to Nadi itself - catch a taxi or bus (takes 15-20 mins). I liked Nadi. But dont be fooled. Nadi is not only the main street where all tourist go and get hustled and where they get the false impression about the town. Go also to side streets, market and to indian temple. | 3
You could be a bit more adventurous and go to Lautoka, the second city on the island and the Sugar City. Buses from the main road by the airport every 10 mins during the day, takes about 90mins, and Fj$2.50 (if I remember correctly) - Lautoka is very much a business city but pleasant tree lined streets etc. | 4
may I alter the question a bit: Thanks a lot! | 5
The answer is the same-since the kids have been up all night head over to Raffles and rent a day room have them sleep as much as possible then spend some time around the pool then head into Nadi for a quick look around after the heat of the day fades. | 6
