Snorkeling & Diving in Fiji

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi there,

we are looking for a place to stay anywhere in Fiji where we have "perfect" snorkeling right off the beach.
Accomodation should not cost more than 80 FJ$/night for 2 people. If meals are included up to 150 (or a little more) are ok.
We don´t need parties or special events.
I hope you know a place where we can go - last time we spent a week at Octopus on Waya. Something like that would be perfect.

Thank you very much

Anna

I´m sorry I forgot to write about the diving ... :)
We are two novice divers and would like to do some diving there as well - if possible. But the main focus is still snorkeling.

Hey Koreente,

I just back from Fiji this morning. Had an awesome time. Octopus is certainly amazing. This time I went to Kadavu and the diving and snorkelling was incredible (not that it was bad around Waya).

Read my report with photos here or see my thread about it elsewhere on the TT.

Vinaka,

Beren

Bula Beren,

great report - thank you very much.
I only heard that the divemaster on Waisalima is a bit risky and not too experienced. As we are both novice we need someone we can trust and rely on. Well, you are a divemaster but how did you feel during the dive? Was he a good guide?

Again thank you very much

Anna

Hi Anna,

I dived with Maika and he was good. He gave a good briefing of the site and dive profile. The gear was all there and prepared (I have been on dives in Fiji where we dropped off the boat only to find the divemaster didn't have a mask and the boat took off for 15 minutes leaving us in the surf to get one).

I don't know about any of the others but I think he is the main divemaster there. I certainly wouldn't have any issues diving with him at an Open Water level. Having said that, the dives we went on were more advanced and I would ask him to take you on easier dives with less current. You will probably see more anyway.

Cheers,

Beren

It is actually true, that some years ago the divemaster at Waisalima was something like a fiasco, but it is now a different company, which has actually a good reputation in Fiji - so I believe that they have now a better dive master. But what happened to the Irish lady instructor ( I forgot her name) and her husband Joji?

Sharon and Joji are currently in Nadi. I had dinner with them on Tuesday. Cool couple and I'm sure they would be great to dive with once they get back to Waisalima.

B-)
