Solo female in Nadi

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi,

I'm a solo female traveler and I will be in Nadi for about 3 days en route to Australia in October. At the risk of sounding like one of those paranoid types, do you know if it's safe for a single woman traveling to Nadi right now? I've traveled by myself plenty, but I'm just a little concerned with the political climate there right now.

I don't know a lot about Nadi or Fiji in general, but I hate resort atmospheres (you know what I mean?? --think Club Med crap!). Where can I go that is away from this type of environment? I'd love to just go someplace really relaxed near a beautiful white sandy beach with a good mix of locals/backpackers near markets & restaurants. Thanks for any help!

yeh ive stayed in two places in nadi wid my ex check out this website http://www.fiji.pacific-resorts.com/backpackers.html. At horizon backpackers our shower broke and flooded the room pretty funny, but a good atmosphere, smugglers cove was really good nice place but kinda (club med style) cool people the good thing is that there all pretty much next to each other. For a female dont go walkin the streets at night ey unless ur in a group we trecked around and it was kool but wouldnt do it solo, easy transfers from airport to accom only have to wait for other flights but ask around there could be better places

There is an area of Nadi called Denerau Island - avoid it !!

Some parts of Nadi town are not the safest late at night. Take taxis if you have to travel off the main drag, or are leaving a place late at night to head back to your accommodation. then again, not much reason to be in Nadi town after dinner hours.

What is wrong with Denerau Island? Aren't there several ferries and trips that leave from there? I am staying at a timeshare there for a week. What would you suggest that I do?

The OP has said that she hates "Resort atmospheres" - the places at Denerau (incl timeshares) are definitely resorts.

Thanks everyone for your input! Will definitely consider what you said. Cheers!
