somewhere worth staying on the mainland

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi. My boyfriend and I (28 and 30) are holidaying in Fiji in August this year and are planning to spend 5 nights on the coral coast (Naviti resort is looking good) and three nights each on the islands. Bounty, Plantation and Blue Lagoon. Will spend our final 2 nights in Nadi. We were planning to fly to Taveuni and spend 3 nights at Makeira resort, but flights will add another $300 aus dollars each to our trip and it just wont be worth it. Was looking forward to seeing the rainforests, waterfalls and country side. Can anyone recommend a good spot on the main island where we might get a similar experience? Looking at 3 nights and somewhere that is easily accessible from Nadi. Any other advice relating to the rest of our trip would be greatly appreciated. Our ideal holiday will involve a little romance, some socialising, relaxation, watersports, diving and culture.

Cheers

I knew that this would come. Now I wait for Calumet to propose going to American Samoa instead ;-) Doesn't it read somewhere that this is supposed to be a 'strictly non advertising community'?

Close to Nadi, the Koryantu-Abaca Nature Reserve (spelling?) offers good rainforest hikes but only simple accommodation.

Otherwise hop over to Suva, which has a wide range of accommodation, lots of sights of historic interest, and good, easy rainforest walks in the nearby Colo-i-Suva Reserve which also has decent accommodation on site.

my boyfriend and I have just got back from Fiji

I have to disagree with wksamoa's comment above.

I want to thank nztourist because we went to Danny's because of the comments made on this forum about Danny's

I have left my review of Danny's on tripadvisor. Great location, Great people and Great experience.

The OP is looking for "rainforests, waterfalls and countryside". Are these all accessible from Danny's?

Yes...they took us up into the rainforest to a waterfall. the whole trip took us about 4 hours.

We had lunch at the waterfall and got to have a swim.

We also went to some hot pools...mud hotpools. Great to soak in so nice.

I think the best thing about staying there was the local knowledge.

Take a bus to Raki Raki (3 hours from Nadi north along the coast?) and a F$30 cab to VoliVoli or Wananavu.

Cheers,
Peter
