Stay in Nadi or go elsewhere?

I'm coming to Fiji 21/2 days before my friend, after which we're starting the bula island thing.
Should I book 2 nights stay in Nadi or go straight to somewhere else (Coral Coast looks nice) and then reutrn to Nadi to start our island trip.
Is there enough to do and see there?
AND....I'm arriving on a sunday-do the public buses all run?

Get out of Nadi as quickly as possible and spend as little time there as possible, it stinks, literally. It gives you no indication of what the rest of Fiji is like.
