Stuff to do on Viti Levu

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

I am going to be in Fiji towards the end of July and I am going to be REALLY budgetting it. That being said I have read some travel books about Fiji and the main island of Fiji sounds interesting. I want to travel the entire island (coast and inland if possible). The problem I have run into is that I can only find information about the southern part of the island mainly between Nadi and Suva. What I was wondering is if anyone could either recommend things to see/do on the main island or tell me if there are any websites that I can find this information from?

Not a website, but this book would give you lots of ideas for Viti Levu, including hiking through the interior.
It's much better than LP for off the beaten track places!

And I think you've made a good decision for interesting budget travel in Fiji.
Viti Levu has a lot more to offer than most tourists realize.

Take a look at the site below for village home stays, rafting etc.

Interesting that by staying on Viti Levu you'll actually be avoiding much of the mass market madness that infects places like the Yasawas.

If travel like Fijians travel-by bus-and eat where they eat-in markets/holes in the wall-you'll be right!

I strongly recommend visiting Navala village. We stayed at Bulou's Lodge for a few very special days. Visit the village with Tui and get to know his wonderful family. You will not be sorry. This is Fiji at its finest!

To get there, take the bus from Ba to Navala or else drive. If you call in advance, Tui will pick you up at the bus dropoff. If you want to just drop in, walk up the road 1km past where the bus drops you off and you will see the signs.

Other winners: Caqalai, Levuka, Ba town.

Things I wish we had done: Bobo's Farm on Ovalau, more inland exploring.

Good luck!

Some info on Navala Village

Note that it's spelled Balou's Retreat, sure looks like the sort of place a lot of people here would like to visit!
