Surfin, snorkeling & diving on a budget?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Is there anywhere to stay in Fiji that has surfing, diving, snorkeling options and it won't break the bank? My wife, 1-year old daughter, and I are trying to figure out if we can afford a month in Fiji or if we have to look elsewhere. Thanks for your help! Cheers.

What is your budget?

We once were back packer SE Asia types but now we are with our baby so have stepped it up a notch. I guess I'm trying to find something for around $100 - $150 a night (Or less of course if it's not a dump). What should i expect to pay? Thanks for your advice.

in Feb. 2007 Octopus Resort had tents that were very reasonable ($30/nite PP I think). The people staying in them that I spoke with were very satisfied. They were large and had sleeping cots.

Several lower cost properties are listed on the Fiji4Less.com website & you can also try the Wotif.com website for last minute discounts on the more upmarket properties (though you wouldn't be able to book a month on Wotif but it maybe good for the first few nights)

Octopus does not have tents any more. They have been replaced by bungalows that share the dorm facilities - basically just a detached bedroom next to the dorm.. Don't know about having a baby in those though. If you check their website you can see a picture of them - remember the rates are in US$$ and the meal plan (compulsory - nowhere else to eat) is shown separately.
But it would be great!

Oarsmans still does have tents - yours or theirs

You will find all you are wishing for at Lawaki Beachhouse on beautiful Beqa island. Two double ensuite bures and a 6 bed dorm. Magnificent snorkelling off the beach. Sam will take you fishing, trip to Frigates Passage for surfing or to the sand island for a picnic and he also can take you diving. His Swiss wife Christine will delight you with her wonderful meals and you will never want to leave. Forget Octopus and the other Yasawa Islands. We have been to them all the finally found Lawaki in 2004 and have been back for 3 weeks every year since. It is too good to be true! Check out their website.
