Suva to Caqalai via...

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi there,
I will be working with a team of 10 uni students on an aid mission in Fiji in June/July near Suva. Afterwards we have about 10 days of r&r and would like to go to Caqalai as I have been there before and absolutely loved it. However, some team members would like to mix things up a bit and stay somewhere a bit more resorty/with a decent shower/bar for a little socialising (as Caqalai is VERY quiet) for a couple nights on the way there. I remember that it was quite a trip getting to Caqalai and am wary of venturing in the other direction lest it take us even longer to get there. If anyone could recommend a resorty kind of place with a young vibe and nice beaches/snorkelling etc kind of on the way or near between Suva and Caqalai that would be great. Oh and not super expensive either. Thanks! Sascha

I don't think it is possible to find such a place on the way to Caqalai.

On the other hand, there are some more upmarket resorts along the Viti Levu south coast (Queen's highway, coral coast ...) Take a bus from Suva and you'd be at one of them in a couple of hours at most - quicker than getting to Caqalai. So, even though in opposite direction from Caqalai, it would not be a big loss of time.

Sorry, I can't recommend a resort .. there is a fairly well-known budget/backpacker resort in that area but I can't recall its name. You could inquire in Suva. I'm sure people there will know about it.

...

I just did a web search. The resort I was thinking of is The Beachouse . As you can see on their web site, only 1.5 hours from Suva. There are resorts in Pacific Harbour with even less travel time.

But, I've never been there (my preference is for Caqalai-type places) so cannot give personal impressions.
