| maya4707:21 UTC06 Nov 2007 | Hello guys,
Can I take a bus from Suva to Navala Village or other way around. Does it go around the coast or like in between? How long would it take?
My itinerary goes like this: Nadi by bus to Suva by bus to Navala Village back to Nadi Mana Island for a day or so
I have like 7-8 days and am trying to fit in all aspects of fiji (capital city, island, travel on the coast. Any tips would be so much appreciated. Leaving on the 26 Nov. Cheers Maya

In short: I had half a plan to go into the interior but finally decided against it because of some inconvenience and difficulty relative to the amount of time I had left.
I do not recall a bus going there from Suva. At best, a bus to some intermediate point, and then a carrier truck the rest of the way (roads aren't that good). Now that I write that, rain was an issue for me at the time. Travel on the backroads of Fiji is always an adventure .. it can no doubt be done, but you'll need some flexibility and maybe some time.
I also recall that access from the north side of the island was easier .. but I might be thinking of a different village.
An alternative is to take a daytrip excursion with a 4-wheel drive. Inquire at a travel agent. Navala is some sort of tourism attraction, so I'd guess you could probably arrange a tour there. This might be the easiest thing to do, depending on circumstances and how much you want to go there.

I find the trip from Suva to Rakiraki to be some of the most beautiful road around the mainland, but this will be a long travel day for you with long bus rides all day. I think you will have to stay overnight in which case I would recommend contacting Bulou Naitoko at (679)651-0194 or (679)6666644x2116. They are a very nice family that runs a small lodge on the river. Of course if it were me, I'd skip Suva on such a short trip and spend my time at these types of places instead;-) Alternatively, you can do it easier from Nadi/Lautoka and go clockwise to Suva afterwards. Good luck.
