Suvasuva to Taveuni by ferryCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
Bula! We'll be in Suvasuva late October and wondered how hard it is to get back and forth to Taveuni by ferry. Googles turns up mostly old and incomplete info. We have the Goundar schedule but wondered about other options. Thanks Don
Patterson Brothers Shipping Company currently shows a limited schedule with service taking five hours between | 1
I don't have up-to-date info on the larger passenger-vehicle ferries. As #1 posts, these are of the 2-3 times per week variety. Another alternative to inquire about is the small passenger-only shuttles that run daily. They link the pier on Taveuni, at or near Waiyevo, with a pier on Vanua Levu somewhere around Nawi or Loa. The crossing takes about 2 hours. You are then faced with a bus ride on dirt roads to get to/from Savusavu, of the 3-4 hour variety. It's a bit of an adventure. When I was there, the ferries (two of them on the day I travelled) left Taveuni around 9:30am. A bus was waiting at the Vanua Levu arrival point. I assume from this that the bus would have left Savusavu between 6-7 am. It's an option to inquire about when you're there. | 2
Thanks to you both. We did find a blog posting by someone taking one of the passenger only ferries and that looks to be the best option because it runs regularly. And we like adventure. Kenko- do you know if the Patterson schedule is available online? We haven't been able to find it. Don | 3
