Taveuni accomodations

Heading to Taveuni for honeymoon for a week or so. Hiking, snorkeling, swimming and general r&r. Generally I like to talk to folks and find "the" place when I get there, but my wife prefers to have it booked ahead of time. Every place seems to be perfect according to the websites and the photos are great, but you never know. Looking for a simple place (bure) with a bit of privacy that won't break the budget run by folks that care and will make us feel welcome. Can anyone offer any suggestions? Thanks.

I already recommended the Vuna Lagoon here. But to enjoy Taveuni you really have to move from one place to the next every 2 days or so, not stay at the same place.

I stayed at coconut grove (not cheap, but idyllic, private, amazing food, has its own snorkel gear and kayaks) its more american in comfort, and another place just up the road in Matei - Tovutovu (bit livelier, great place, great people and has its own dive co as well). Both places are great, different to each other but great. Both can help you organise hiking, visits to Bouma, the lavena coastal walk, trips around the island and so on...

But if you give us some idea of a budget could help more...

Also taveuni is as developed as say the yasawas, electricity is generator only, and its very quiet (which we loved when we were there!). The national parks are fantastic, the diving and snorkeling is great (to get your padi qualification out there is very cheap), horseriding was great, fiji bitter is great to drink!

Check our Maravu Plantation resort - very nice.

Here is a link (you dont have to dive!) Maravu

Hi,
We stayed at Paradise Taveuni recently. Couple place - good for honeymoons. Great views, food, people and lots to do. The owners are a nice Australian couple and gave us a discounted rate as they are still fixing the place up. Stay for Fiji night - good atmosphere and entertainment. New villas (bures) are very nice. No phones, no TV. Right on the oceanfront.
