To live in Fiji

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

I got back from my last trip just around in Europe for some days ago, now planing my next trip.
Me and my family (3 persons, 1 kid at age 4 then) are thinking about some travelling next year. Right now we are thinking about Fiji (June-December) but we are a little confused. As a student in Sweden the amount of money you get when you are abroad and study differs between countries. If you live in Albania, Chile, Kosovo you will get around 900 Euro per month (same in Sweden), if you live in Bosnia you will get 1300 Euro. In Fiji you only get 255 Euro. This represent the average amount for a the same standard that you should have in Sweden they say. But when I look at what people have wrote here its looks a lot more expensive? Is it possible with only 255 Euros to live one month in Fiji?
If we travel to Fiji we will have something between 1.000-1.400 Euro a month (2 adults and one child) is this a reasonable amount?
I haven't done any searches for apartments yet so I don't know the price of them either, do you know what the price is if we try to find them on spot?

Exchange rate today for EUR $1000 is $F2536.00. If you did a bit more research on some of the feedback from travellers, about village homestays, you will find that is more than enough. It all depends on what sort of holiday you alre looking for.

1000-1400 Euro for 3 people together should be enough, but 255 for one almost certainly not.

2

Are you planning to study while in Fiji, or does your government actually pay you an allowance that allows you to travel?

3

Ozziegiraffe: It doesn't matter where we are while we study (except the fact that a lot of courses are hard to manage on distance).

4

If you are planning to study online, you might find internet access much slower and less convenient in Fiji than Europe.

5

Internet access isn't bad here, at least in Suva, but it's not super fast or cheap. What are you planning to study? You might want to check out USP to see whether they may have resources, e.g. at the library, which can help you.
