transfer from Nadi Airport to Denarau

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

the hotel we are staying at on Denarau Island does not offer a free transfer from the airport to the hotel. They have offered us a transfer but the price is astronomical ...my research shows it is only a 15min car journey.

We are a family of 6 and need to find a transfer to the hotel ...we do not want to go in multiple taxis

can anyone suggest a transfer option for us

many thanks in advance

You can catch the yellow 'Westside' (??) bus from your hotel to Nadi town. It is designed for hotel employees, but anyone can catch it and it runs regularly and stops at all hotels in Denarau. It costs $1 per person to Nadi.

Hop out at the Queens Road roundabout, or go on to Nadi town (just a short distance) and catch a regular bus going to Lautoka. You will need to check to get one that goes into the airport otherwise you will have a 200m walk to the terminal from Queens Road. Cost will be about $1 per person, I reckon.

Cheers,
Peter

EDIT.... Sorry,I described this journey backwards, but it works in the reverse direction too.
Catch a regular bus from the airport to Nadi town (ask a few locals where it stops at the terminal), but get off as soon as you cross the bridge over the river after the roundabout.
Then walk back 30m, cross the main road and look for the yellow bus about 100m to the west. It comes along every 30 minutes or so. Ask the driver to let you know when your hotel comes up.

Peter_n_Margaret - thanks for your reply but not really what we need. We have luggage for a family of 6 plus a couple of full size golf bags...the thought of changing buses and walking etc does not appeal.

anyone else got some suggestions

try http://www.fijitransfers.com

they have mini vans

"we do not want to go in multiple taxis"
Why on earth not?
2 taxis will accommodate all your people and stuff and, per person is not expensive,

Especially since it's only a short drive!

You can probably arrange for a van with the cabbies @ the airport but it won't be cheap and you'll wait longer for it to arrive than it will take to drive to Denarau

5

Only special taxies can pick up a fare at the airport unless you arrange one to meet you in the carpark.
Flag fall is F$5 and the fare is F$1 per km.
Two standard cabs would be the cheapest way.

Peter

next question - re day cruises out to the islands

should we take the Yasawa Flyer for a day cruise - I cannot find any information where we can get off along the way to have lunch and a snorkel etc

or should we do a day cruise to an island close to Nadi - Bounty, South Sea Island, Beachcomber etc

8

You can use the Flyer to go to an island and then take it back to port. That might be more expensive than just taking a day tour eg http://www.sunvacationsfiji.com/06offer_det.asp?off=25

A 7 day isalnd hopper pass costs $321. Not sure if you can pay less for a day return

I agree with Mandja that a day trip will be cheaper than using the Flyer - you could also have a look at www.ssc.com.fj for a selection of day trips. I can recommend the one to Mana Island - not too long in getting there, a chance to see some of the other islands on the way, several great beaches, fabulous snorkeling , good food and a great way to spend the day. Google awesomeadventures fiji for the schedule of the Flyer - it will show the time it leaves Denaru, when it gets to the other islands and when it starts it's pick up on the way back. I would imagine all the resorts would welcome you as a day visitor - don't know if they would have packages for use of facilities and meals.
