Transit in Nadi - can I leave the airport?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi everyone,

I will be flying from Australia to Los Angeles via Nadi with Air Pacific in a few weeks.

I will have a six-hour stopover in Nadi. Air Pacific advises me I will not be able to leave the airport during this time.

Does anyone know if this is correct? I am keen to spend a few hours in Nadi town if possible.

Thanks for your advice.

I wouldn't worry too much if you have 6 hours.

You can easily get into Nadi town by a cheap taxi ride from the airport, maybe 10-15 minutes. But do get back about 2.5 hours before your outgoing flight.

Hit the open air market, etc., it's fun for a little while. Avoid the shops on the main drag, however, try the back streets a bit.

Unless they plan to lock you up in the Left Luggage room you'll have lots of time to yourself-as Raro says.

Customs & Immigration know you're in transit but you enter the country the same as anyone else I've done exactly the same as you twice.

Yes, one more tip---look for the ice cream place/cafe on a corner, near downtown. It has AC, and great ice cream! I've spent several layovers centered around it.
