Travel Between Pacific Island Countries

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

I'd like to spend a month travelling to several different Pacific Island counties, say : Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu & Cook Islands.
Is it possible to travel direct between these countries, or do you have to fly back to New Zealand to travel to the next destination ?

(I'll post this to several of the counties forums)

Ken, don't bother with separate posts to each country, they won't get any more replies than this general one.
First, places like Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Fiji and Solomon Islands are much closer to Australia than New Zealand, and some don't have direct flights from New Zealand at all (eg Solomon Islands only has flights from Brisbane in Australia, plus Vanuatu, Fiji, Port Moresby and Nauru).
Fiji is something of a hub, and you can get to several countries from there.
Vanuatu has flights to Fiji, Solomon Islands, and I think, New Caledonia.
I am not sure about the Polynesian countries, but others on the forum will help there.

A couple of years ago we were able to do a triangle trip from Fiji to Vanuatu to New Caledonia to Fiji. You can also connect Tahiti and the Cook Islands. What I find helpful is to go the website for the airports in the area and check out where flights are coming from and going to - most will have arrival and departure information - or one of the websites that have that information.

I'm not sure airports like Honiara even HAVE a website!

They probably don't Ozziegiraffe but I found you can still access flight information from a website like skyscanner.net. I typed Honiara Airport into my search engine and found skyscanner which gave me a list of airports you can fly to from Honiara. I chose Brisbane and then got a link to Virgin Blue where I was able to get schedules. A bit of work but doable. Hope this helps others trying to find their way around the SP.

Thanks for the website, Newfie. I may not need it to fly to Honiara, but it will help me plan my trip to Europe.
