travelling to kadavu - boat or flight?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

We're travelling to Fiji in December and wanted to stay on Kadavu for a few days. Does anyone know how best to get there from Nadi or Suva? Is this flight only or can we get a boat? Should we book this before we get there...?

Also what is Kadavu like for food prices? We had heard we may be stuck with the resort food/ prices?

Thanks!!!!!

Easiest to fly from Suva. If time is tight, it is best to book ahead, although booking does not always guarantee a seat - check when you get there as double-bookings are common. Take cash to pay for the flight. Not sure about food prices as the place we stayed (Alberts) supplied all meals in daily price.

There is no restaurant or supermarket on the island, a small village store at Vunisea- tin fish and corned beef mainly basic food items. You have to eat, what your resort is offering.
Ferry is not too reliable, especially if you have to catch an international fliht. Flihts should be pre-booked, paid and confirmed, otherwise it could happen - should the plane be overbooked - you are asked to come back for the next one the following day (that happened to some guests last week - due to that their complete schedule was messed up!)
