Two and a half weeks in Fiji

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi,

We are heading to Fiji in October - have so far pencilled in Yasawas, and also looking at Taveuni and Ovalau - how long would you recommend for each of the latter two (in Yasawas for 5 nights)?

Anywhere additional that's recommended?

Thanks,

Clare

2-3 full days for Ovalau and the rest for Taveuni.
You will also pass through Viti Levu so spend at least a full day or maybe two in Suva. And maybe a day in Nadi and Lautoka to check out the temples and markets and do some shopping.

While in Ovalau I can highly recommend a stay at the little island of Caqalai. Boat transfer from Levuka is FJ$30 each way. The island is small, you can walk around it in about 10 minutes, but the snorkelling is amazing. They also have a dive center. The place is run by Methodists; they don't serve alcohol, but you can bring your own booze.
The bures are (very) basic, no ensuites, but outside shower and western style toilet (shared) and they're FJ$ 60 a night, incl. meals.

If you've done the island thing in the Yasawas, I wouldn't bother with Caqalai. Have a look around Levuka - nice colonial architecture, and stay at Bobo's Farm. A couple of days is fine for Ovalau.

Taveuni is awesome. Go for a bilibili ride and snorkel in the Waitabu marine park, do the Lavena coastal hike, and Bouma falls.
