two weeks in Fiji in April

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

hey

We will be in Fiji in april 2011, and were thinking about spending 7 nights in The Blue Lagoon ... Just to relax after our New Zealand Trek ... But we'll have 7 days left ... Any suggestions for other islands/activities/itineraries? Is it worth buying a Bula Pass for 14 days?

Tnx
Peter

if you are intending to do more travel in the Yasawas, no a 14 day pass is a waste of money since you won't be using it for 7 days! You can pay for a single trip out, and if you are going to island hop for the last 7 days, buy one for that. However if you are going to only one or two other places it may be economical just to buy a ticket between each and the homeward one from the last stop. Email South Sea cruises for a break down on the costs of each leg.
There are plenty of other places to stay in the Yasawas, depending on the degree of comfort, activities and cost you want. On par with Blue Lagoon are Botaira and Octopus. Manta ray is more of a party place, others are more "rustic". Have a look at their websites.
The other alternative is to spend time on the mainland, although the beaches and snorkeling are not as good, there are opportunities for trips into the highlands, white water rafting, waterfall visits, local town markets. You could consider a village homestay for a few days if you want to immerse into village life. It all depends on your interests.

Village Homestay on the main Island of Viti Levu

consider Danny's on the Coral Coast

there are short 20 to 30 second YouTube clips at the above link showing you what the village stay is like.

14 days is probably a bit toooooo relaxing up in the yasawa's and you might well get bored, go up without a return ticket and see how long you last, or comeback early and maybe try Danny's. 8 days max is all youll probably really need as its such a relaxing place
